By the third trimester many moms-to-be are experiencing changes in their body which can benefit from acupuncture and massage therapy.
In addition to relieving the symptoms of late pregnancy including back pain, sciatica, heartburn, pelvic pain, acupuncture also prepares mom and baby for a smooth, healthy delivery. Acupuncture has also been shown to correct breach presentation and induce labor.
We recommend treatment every 2 to 4 weeks in general, but some conditions may require more frequent treatment.
Breech Presentation: A course of 1-5 treatments beginning week 35 and given 1-2 times per week. Click here more information on breech presentation.
Labor Induction: A course of 1-5 treatments beginning week 38 and given 1-3 times per week. Click here for more information on labor induction.
According to the American Pregnancy Association studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health.
A massage in the third trimester is a side lying, full body massage; the further along you are the deeper the work can be. According to the American Pregnancy Association, tables that provide a hole in which the uterus can fit may not be reliable and can still apply pressure to the abdomen, or allow the abdomen to dangle, causing uncomfortable stretching of the uterine ligaments.
We recommend treatment every 1-4 weeks.
