Acupuncture FAQ

Acupuncture FAQ

Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture should not be painful. There may be a brief, slight sting at the needle site, but often times nothing is felt at all.  An acupuncture needle is as fine as a human hair and is flexible.  Patients often describe a sense of deep relaxation during the treatment and often times fall asleep.

What should I wear?
Many of the acupuncture points are located on the legs, abdomen, and back.  No special clothing is needed. You will be draped with a sheet to access these points, similar to a massage, to ensure maximum privacy and modesty during the treatment.

How long will my appointment last?
The initial consultation and treatment lasts approximately one hour and 15 minutes to one hour and 30 minutes.  Subsequent office visits last approximately one hour.

Are the needles sterile?
Yes. The needles are pre-packaged, single use only, and immediately disposed of according to the regulations of the State of Indiana.

Does it matter what my specific fertility issues are?
No. A unique treatment plan is created for each patient, based on their needs, history, and concerns.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?
No, a referral is not needed.

Should I bring any records from other doctors that I am seeing?
No, you will be emailed a Patient Intake form when you set up your first appointment. If for some reason you do not receive an email, the form can also be downloaded from the website. This is all that you need to bring to your first appointment.

Do you treat male fertility issues?
Yes. Although most treatments focus on the woman, many fertility issues stem from the male, in which case a course of acupuncture treatment may be appropriate to balance the the body so the reproductive system can function properly.
